terrible news… yamamoto keiichi has been questioned in a rape case of a 17 yr old girl in hakodate, hokkaidou. i love this guy for his role as yama-sama on popular mecha mecha iketeru’s “buta no ran” skit in which he tries to make his court laugh, and if anyone dares, he has his little girls who follow along to slap them soundly. comedy does not get better than this. man, i hope he didn’t do it.
yamamoto keiichi
for those of you not familiar with buta no ran, here is a clip…
there is some static in korea right now about a singer named “ayumi”. she’s korean, and she used to belong to a poppy sugary group called, well, sugar. now she’s doing her solo thing, and there are many koreans who are unhappy with her becuase her name is blatantly japanese. and so is her song, which is a remake of koda kumi’s “cutie honey”. and her outfit(which they claim is too japanese… huh?) in this concert.
i mean, come on, she was raised and educated in japan… what do you expect? they say that her korean accent isn’t perfect… although i can’t say… my headphone is broken, and it’s in the shop.
and i thought things couldn’t get weirder about the whole dokdo/takeshima thingie. in this video clip i found thanks to japan probe, apparently the “evil” japanese complete with a sumo rikishi are invading two rocks known as dokdo/takeshima. and, well, robot taekwon v rises to smash japanese fleet’s finest.
now, i know it’s nationalistic jingoism, and yes, it’s about couple of stupid rocks, but i have to admit, it is a bit funny. funny because here are two countries that share so many similarities in culture, language, and history argue about some rocks in the middle of an ocean(kind of reminds me of spat between england and argentina over falklands… another rock in the middle of who gives a rat’s ass), but also because, obviously some korean company has spent a lot of cpu cycles to produce this pretty good animation. again, over some rocks. now, i understand there maybe some valuable resources under them rocks, and also of the fishing rights, but come on, korea… and also you, japan… just share it or something.
i mean there are two rocks, no? korea gets one, and japan gets one. fair, i think.
i understand that most vocal of the two country is without contest korea’s when it comes to the contentious issue of the islets. a recent survey has concluded that close 98% of the internet search for the term “dokdo” originates from korea. for shame, koreans… don’t you have better things to google, like naked girls or something? and at the same time, something close to 97% of internet search for the term “takeshima” originates from… well, again, korea. huh?
so what does this tell us?
i conjecture that koreans really, really value what these two rocks mean to them. and that most of the japanese populace doesn’t care that much about takeshima, or dokdo.
i really think that instead of bickering over the islets, if the two countries would just join forces to create something positive, say mp3 playing mecha-bot with rocket punch, things would be a lot cooler.
music video from teriyaki boyz called “heart breaker”. teriyaki boyz is verbal from m-flo, il mari and ryo-z from rip slyme, and nigo and wise from bathing ape. they seem to have pretty good producers for their album “beef or chicken”, ad rock from the beastie boys along with daft punk among others.
Sonin(or Sonim) is a zainichi, a second(maybe third?) generation korean living in japan. she used be a member of EE jump! whose other member was Goto Maki’s younger brother Goto Yuuki. she’s solo now, and instead of poppy, happy songs of EE jump, is more rock ballad. this particular song is a good example.
